Become a Class Captain–Make a Difference in Your Child's Classroom!

Class captains play an integral role at SMS, and volunteering for this position is a wonderful way to become involved in your child's class. There are up to three class captains per teacher.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Forwarding emails regarding class information and important PTA information (including recruiting and assembling volunteers) on a timely basis

  • Collecting classroom contributions and organizing teacher gifts

  • Assisting with organized class events as needed

  • Organizing “Teacher Appreciation Week” for your teacher with the guidance of the PTA

  • Serving as a support to your teacher and assisting with their requests

Sign up to be a class captain HERE. If there are more than three people interested in becoming a captain for a particular class, a lottery will be held.  To the extent that one of the interested parties has entered a lottery in previous years and not been selected, we will ask anyone who will be serving as a captain for another class or who has been a class captain in the past to voluntarily forego their lottery entry to afford the parent/guardian who did not have the previous opportunity to serve the opportunity to do so this year.

We will ask those selected as class captains to attend an orientation meeting on September 26th in the Big School Cafeteria right after morning drop-off (8:15 a.m.).  If you are unable to attend, please contact Mary Broydrick and Lisa Eskenazi at southmountainpta.membership@gmail.com.
