Hello SMS Students and Families,

I would first like to say, “Welcome to the South Mountain Family” to our brand new SMS families and “Welcome back” to our returning families. I hope you are enjoying your summer and hopefully tried some new activities. I also hope that your child(ren) are excited, recharged and ready to start a new school year at SMS. It is hard to believe that I am entering my third year as principal of SMS and I am overjoyed that we are returning to 100% in-person instruction this September.

As this school year presents a new normal. SMS administration and teachers are diligently working to provide our students with the best “In-Person” learning experience as possible where students are challenged daily with high quality instruction. I am sure there will be some hiccups during the first few weeks of school and we will address them as they occur.

The first day of school is Thursday, September 9, 2021. I have attached a PDF of the South Mountain parent handbook. The handbook provides information about school safety, medical information, school hours, lunch and other pertinent school information.

We would like to give well wishes to a couple of SMS teachers who have moved onto the next chapter of their lives. Ms. Terri Paisner , Mr. Craig Rynar and Ms. Debbie Wright

We would also like to welcome new teachers to the SMS family: Ms. Katherine Stein (3rd grade), Ms. Marlee Taub (4th grade), Ms. Christine O’Sullivan (special education teacher) and Ms. Lisa Giambrone (kindergarten special education teacher)

In addition to our focus on rigor and academics, our teachers will also focus on the Social Emotional well being of our students during these unprecedented times. As we embark on this educational and Social-Emotional journey for the 2021-2022 school year, the SMS administration and teaching staff are here to support you and your child(ren). Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns. I am looking forward to the start of an exciting new school year.

In Partnership,

Mr. Kevin Mason Principal South Mountain Elementary/Annex
